Gaya Island Resort is one the newest resorts in the area and is only accessible by boat within the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park off the coast of Kota Kinabulu. The resort offers beautifully decorated suites made from local materials with spectacular views of the surrounding area. Our thoughts
This resort is set amidst a lush rainforest and offers breathtaking views of the ocean, islands, and a distant Mt. Kinabalu. Each villa is spacious and modern but respectful of local Sabahan elements using local materials that blend with the natural environment. The resort is surrounded by white sand beaches, forests, and coral reefs with a range of water based activities, yoga classes, cruises, nature, and cultural excursions leaving no excuse for boredom. Complimentary activities include snorkelling and jungle walks.

Omakase - Omakase is the newest restaurant to feature at Gaya Island. It's a two-storey haven for Japanese food-lovers. It has three different Japanese styles Teppanyaki, Shabu-Shabu, and Nabe served in an Omakase-style, and perched on top of a hill it spoils diners with views of Mount Kinabalu in the distance. Each chef is incredible and across the three varying styles can show off their talents, to expertly create a stunning and not-to-be-forgotten meal.
Feast Village - Feast Village is an interactive all day dining experience by the lap pool that offers diverse cuisine from the Asia-Pacific region including baked goods, Japanese, Korean, Asian and Western selections.
Fisherman's Cove - Fisherman's Cove is a fine dining restaurant located on the rooftop of the resort and only offers fresh seafood cuisine along with a stunning view of the sea and Mt. Kinabalu. Children under 16 are not allowed and smart casual dress is required.
Tavajun Bay - Tavajun Bay is set in an enclave and is a 5 minute boat ride from the resort. Single dish meals that change daily are infused with both local and international influences for diners to enjoy while sitting atop rustic logs or on a beach mat with toes in the sand. Guests may also pre-order a personalised picnic basket for an indulgent afternoon.

Bayu Villas - These villas are set on a gently sloping hillside amongst a tropical mangrove and are within walking distance from the beautiful sandy beach.
Canopy Villas - These villas are set on a hillside amidst a lush rainforest and offer a peaceful setting with leafy views. Connecting rooms are available for families.
Kinabalu Villas - These villas provides the resort's best views that stretch across the South China Sea where Mt. Kinabalu can be seen on a clear day. Connecting rooms are available for families.
Suria Suites - These suites are perched on a sloping hillside and occupy two levels. Each suite offers uninterrupted views of the ocean and Mt. Kinabalu from an outdoor veranda with daybeds. The ground floor features a relaxing lounge area, private dining room, TV room, powder room, and pantry which opens to an outdoor deck. The first floor features two spacious bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, walk in wardrobes and vanity areas. This haven is completed by an outdoor bath leading to a private balcony.
