Located above the spectacular ocean cliffs, the Ventana Inn & Spa hotel is like a little Eden set in the central coast area of California. A truly luxurious and decadent spa, with locally sourced restaurants serving world class food and generously proportioned rustic chic guestrooms and villas. With over 200 acres of oceanfront space, the hotel is built to create a holistic resort with a zen-like feel. The hotel offers a range of activities for guests to enjoy during their stay including hikes, kayaking, diving and kiteboarding. To relax at the hotel, there are two pools, gym, library, and wide open meadows to kick back and relax in.
Please Note: As Highway 1 was damaged due to winter storms, the only access road to the hotel, the Ventana is temporarily closed.

The closest airport is Monterey Regional Airport about an hour away from Ventana, serviced by a number of domestic and connecting flights by American, Delta, United, & US Airways. The closest international airport is San Jose about 2 hours away and San Francisco International Airport is about 2.5 hours away. Given the remote location, the roads can be sometimes closed due to inclement weather.

The best time to visit this area is from September to November. With over 300 days of sunshine in a year, the peak season here runs from Apr - Oct.
Our thoughts
It is a great property if you are looking for some laid back relaxing time up in the mountains. A perfect way to take a break if you are touring this side of America. As this hotel has an over 18+ only guests policy, it suits couples and people looking for some adult only accommodation. The rooms are very spacious and features like an indoor tub for two make it great for a couple to spend some quality time. Some of the activities listed as free are only available with a daily resort fee, for e.g. the afternoon wine & cheese and yoga classes.

The Restaurant at Ventana - Chef Paul Corsentino from New York serves a constantly changing menu of fresh dishes inspired by California and sourced locally. The dining room has a lodge-like vibe, with the patio overlooking the ocean. You can opt for a 4-course tasting menu which includes a buttery osso buco with local mushrooms and a silky beet gazpacho, or à la carte. Lunch tends to be a more informal menu with calamari & quinoa salad and pulled chicken sandwiches. The restaurant is a 10-minute walk from the hotel, however, free golf cart rides will shuttle you back and forth.
VENTANA GUESTROOM
This room features a plush king bed with a shuttered window seat and a private deck that offers ocean or forest views. The room is roughly 414 sqft, with an artisan curated minibar. Guests over 18 yrs are only allowed and no pets.
VENTANA FIREPLACE GUESTROOM
This room features a lovely wood burning fireplace for those chilly mornings to snuggle up with your loved one. These rooms have a pretty generous private deck with stunning views of the Big Sur forest, coastline or meadows. The room is equipped with a king bed, an artisan curated mini bar and has about 414 - 471 sqft of space.
SUPERIOR FIREPLACE GUESTROOM
Relax on your private deck with views of the forest around you, or cosy up in front of the wood burning fireplace. This room which features a king size bed, a wet bar, window seat and a dining alcove is built to give you utmost comfort. The room is quite spacious with about 480 - 485 sqft of floor space and has an artisan curated mini bar for you to enjoy.
PACIFIC HOUSE ROOM
Enjoy the beauty of the Pacific Ocean from this very generously open guestrooms. This 634 sqft room is equipped with a king size bed, double vanity sinks, wood burning fireplace, skylights, high ceilings and an oversized tub. A lovely feature is the retractable bathroom walls, allowing you to have a bathtub with a fireplace view. On your private patio enjoy a hot tub for two making it perfect for a romantic retreat.
BIG SUR SUITE
These suites are a combination of luxury and space with stunning views. Stay cosy in front of the wood burning fireplace, or settle down with a book in the oversized leather chairs, or enjoy the ocean or canyon views from the hammock on the large outdoor deck. This 619 sqft room features a king size bed, wet bar, dining alcove, a soaking tub for two, double vanity sinks and a separate shower & dressing area.
BIG SUR SPA SUITE
The spa suite is built to give you a spa-like experience. The private patio is massive and is fitted with a hot tub, an oversized hammock to laze in as you enjoy the ocean or canyon views. Enjoy the bath tub for two by chilling out in front of a wood burning fireplace with the retractable bathroom walls. This 619 sqft room also features a king size bed, dining alcove, wet bar, double vanity sinks and a separate shower and dressing area.
VISTA HOT TUB SUITE
These generously built suites with natural hewn wood walls and stunning views of rolling meadows and distant redwoods is great for a relaxing stay at Ventana. They feature a large deck with a private hot tub, wood burning fireplace, large leather chairs, indoor tub for two and a dining alcove. The 773 sqft room is a great place to relax and rejuvenate with with views of the ocean and the private meadow.
SUPERIOR HOT TUB SUITE
These suites feature a king bed, bathroom, a 300sft outdoor deck, with a private hot tub with scenic views of the forests and meadows of the area. This 499 sqft room is perfect to relax whether it's in front of the wood burning fireplace or the spacious window seat.
BIG SUR VILLA
The Big Sur villa is a split level accommodation with the first floor equipped with a living room, full-size sofa, and a wood burning fireplace to relax in front of. The second floor features a king size bed and an open concept bathroom. Each floor has it's own private outdoor space, with stunning vistas of Big Sur in front. This room has a floor space of about 930 - 1198 sqft and also has a wet bar, window seat and a private deck.
THE COTTAGE HOUSE
This is a premium accommodation. It operates as a standalone retreat wit hits privacy. It is about 722 sqft and has a spacious outdoor deck (600 sqft) with views of the redwood forest and canyon views. The cottage also has a wood burning fireplace, a king sized bed, dining alcove, wet bar, indoor tub for two, double vanity sinks, hammock, private hot tub, a separate showered and dressing area.
