Luang Say Cruise
Travelling by boat is the ideal way to explore the more remote parts of Laos. Meander down the Mekong from the comfort of a luxurious converted rice barge and discover a truly timeless Asia, as you pass by unspoilt landscapes and villages unchanged for centuries.
After setting sail from Huay Xai near the border with Thailand and enjoying a traditional Laotian lunch, you will arrive in the small riverside village of Pak Beng, where you will spend the night at the Luang Say Lodge. Overlooking the Mekong River, the secluded lodge consists of 20 spacious comfortable bungalows each with large open air windows with excellent views of the surrounding area. Each bungalow features a comfortable bed, mosquito nets and a private bathroom. A wooden walkway through the lovely gardens links all the bungalows to the central bar and restaurant area.
The second day will take you onto Luang Prabang, the spiritual capital of Laos, a journey that will take the majority of the day. Before arriving at your final destination, you will have the opportunity to stop en route at a local hill tribe village and the Pak Ou Caves, famous for housing over 2,500 Buddha statues.
The cruise also operates in reverse, so you could do it at the end of your time in Laos, before continuing into Northern Thailand.
