The Best Places to Travel in April
Songkran is the celebration of New Year in Thailand which is celebrated in April each year. This festival becomes a huge water festival where locals and tourists jovially throw water at one another in order to rid themselves of the bad spirits ready for the New Year. One of the best places to celebrate Songkran is in Chiang Mai. Chiang Mai is both a natural and cultural destination. Chiang Mai’s verdant countryside and mountains offer limitless possibilities for nature explorations as well as visits to many fascinating ethnic hill-tribe villages.
April is also the month when Khmer New Year is celebrated in Cambodia. The holiday lasts for three days beginning on New Year's Day, which usually falls on April 13th or 14th, which is the end of the harvesting season when farmers enjoy the fruits of their labour before the rainy season begins. A great place to celebrate Khmer New Year is in Siem Reap. What better way to bring in the New Year than at the mystical temples of Angkor Wat. Angkor is one of the most important archaeological sites in South-East Asia.
Bisket Jatra is the harbinger of the Nepali New Year and is celebrated with splendour in Bhaktapur. A massive and ponderous chariot which holds the images of God Bhairab is tugged to Khalna Tole and in the middle there is a friendly tug of war, between the eastern and western side of the town folk. The medieval Nepalese city of Bhaktapur illustrates just how rewarding urban exploration can be- whether you follow the crowds to the picturesque temples of Durbar Square, or lose yourselves in its historic, cobbled backstreets.
Thailand

Cambodia

Relics of this powerful rule abound throughout the land, from the magical and mysterious Angkor Wat to the walled city of Angkor Thom. Alongside such man-made miracles is the birding paradise of Tonle Sap Lake, the tigers and elephants of the Cardamom Mountains, the beaches of Sihanoukville and Kep, and of course the fascinating capital Phnom Penh.
