7/22/2019,
The chief of a tourism agency in Indonesia has confirmed that Komodo Island - famous for it in the habitation of Komodo Dragons - will be closing in 2020 in order to help rehabilitation and conservation efforts.
East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Tourism Agency head Wayan Darmawa has told the official Antara news agency, “It is definite; we have decided to close Komodo Island next year.”
Any tourists who would like to see the dragons will be encouraged to visit Rinca Island. It is to be believed that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has sanctioned the Komodo Island’s closure. Residents living in Komodo national park are also being moved out of the area, despite protests.
